I have worked to give new life to this material too quickly reduced to waste. How? By unearthing ancestral knowledge to develop a laundry detergent based on a local, circular, and sustainable approach.
From tree to laundry detergent
Wood ashes
A local, natural, and underestimated resource. Derived from the combustion of untreated wood, it is rich in potash, a powerful cleaning and degreasing agent. When mixed with water, it releases potash, the active molecule in washing. By valorizing wood ash, we limit waste, reduce groundwater pollution, and offer an alternative that respects both health and the environment.
An ancestral method
"Laundry detergent made from wood ash is an ancient method for cleaning clothes, born well before the invention of modern detergents.
Already in the Middle Ages, wood ash was collected, sifted, mixed with water, and then filtered to extract a clear solution: ash lye. The laundry was then soaked in the ash lye, sometimes heated for more effectiveness, then scrubbed and rinsed with clear water. The cycles took several hours and were entirely manual.
Artisanal production
Coarsely sifted, wood ash is mixed with water to extract its natural detergent and degreasing properties. Only a few essential cleaning and preservative agents are added, for a formula that is both effective and pure. And a touch of fragrance in the 'pine needles' version to offer a subtle and pleasant freshness.
A local solution
Our products are entirely designed and manufactured in Switzerland, with a responsible and sustainable approach. By utilizing local resources and collaborating with regional partners, we reduce the ecological footprint while supporting the local economy.
